There are things we don’t know, we don’t know. And that which is outside of our consciousness or awareness, can sometimes have profound power over us and our trajectory in life.
The purpose of the Conscious Adulting writings is simple. They aim to help you see.
We enter the world as untouched – unconditioned, pure presence. The circumstances we are born into then begin to condition us. As children, just as we are vulnerable physically - wholly unable to provide for or protect ourselves, we are also vulnerable mentally and emotionally. We are entirely incapable of protecting ourselves from conditioning.
We define conditioning as leaving an imprint on a child - shaping them, and so their future. Adults are responsible for much of the conditioning that children are subject to. Whether a close relation in regular contact or a temporary but significant connection, adults leave indelible imprints on children.
But conditioning, or imprint formation does not cease once we cease being children. Any significant experience throughout life, whether short-lived or enduring, can leave a mark on us. Influence - even change, us and our trajectory.
There are imprints that serve us well, and there are those that undermine our peace, happiness and greatness. It is the latter that the Conscious Adulting writings delve into.
We may be well aware or conscious of these imprints that do not serve us. Or these imprints may be insidious, completely outside of our awareness, all the while powerfully manoeuvring us without our permission. These covert imprints can permeate our substance so thoroughly, that we unwittingly consider them as part of who we are fundamentally. But they are not part of our fundamental, essential self. The Conscious Adulting writings intend to help you see this. Simply seeing - becoming conscious of these unhelpful imprints, goes a long way in separating ourselves from them and the power they surreptitiously hold over us.
Thus, the Conscious Adulting body of work aims firstly to help adults become aware – conscious of, their own imprinting and how it may have influenced/continues to influence their own life experience. Secondly and equally importantly, they aim to help adults become more aware – conscious of, how they themselves may be imprinting the children in their world.
Part of the Planting Seeds collection, the Conscious Adulting writings ultimately purport to improve the quality-of-life experience, for every adult and every child.
